The Core Team is an all mountain and freestyle youth development and competition ski and snowboard program operated by the Whaleback Mountain Club, separately from UVSSF.  Whaleback Mountain Club is a registered non-profit organization that is comprised of local families who embody the spirit and values of the Core Team and love for snow sports.  We operate with the support of Whaleback Mountain to offer affordable, season long programs.    Our goal is to develop athletes in a fun and nurturing environment and inspire enthusiasm for winter sports.  We ski and ride as teams encouraging each individual to progress to the best of their ability, whether as a recreational skier/snowboarder or as a competitor.

  • Programs for youth ages 5 thru 17, novice to competition levels
  • Freestyle Competition Team, All Mountain, and Snowboard program for athletes 10+
  • Development Program, MiniCore, MiniCore Plus for athletes 5+
  • Multi-discipline skiing/boarding, cross-training, terrain based learning, goal setting, video analysis, and education on the ethical principles of skiing.
  • Multiple Child Discount and Flex program allows you to build a program and schedule to suit your athlete and family’s schedule and budget.

My apologies, the correct date for the event is Saturday 1/26-not 1/16 as erroneously listed in the previous subject line.

Also,we will have a U6 age category again this year.

Master of the Mountain Saturday 1/16
Hello Team,
Registration is open for our Master of the Mountain event Saturday 1/26.  Athletes must pre-register by visiting our website at www.whalebackcoreteam.com and selecting the pink button labeled MOM Registration.  We are looking forward to a great event with plenty of snow!!!   It will surely be an awesome day at the Whale.  Below are some bullet point details for the day.  
We encourage all of all MiniCore, MiniCore Plus and Devo atheles to participate.  If your athlete does not want to participate in this event there will be NO regularTraining on Saturday 1/26.  All of our coaches will be coaching groups thru the event.
Core Freestyle, Snowbard and All Mountain will train per the usual training or competition schedule.
Looking forward to a great event!
  • Open to U8-U14 athletes in MiniCore, Mini-Core Plus and DEVO
  • Cost is $30 and if families could pay online as part of registration that would be great.  We will still accept cash or check (payable to Whaleback Mountain Club) on the day of the event
  • Pre-registration required.  Registration will close Thursday 1/24 at midnight.
  • Paneled Slalom event on lower Spout and a Slopestyle event in our lower park. 
  • Parent tickets will be available from Whaleback Mountain for $25
  • Tentative Itinerary:
    • 7:30-8:30:  Registration (upstairs in the lodge).
    • 9:00:  Lifts open
    • 9:00-9:55 :  Course inspection of paneled slalom run (Spout).
    • 10:00 :  Paneled Slalom run beginning with snowboarders, followed byU6 girls then U6 boys and continuing in age order.
    • 10:00-12pm:  Slopestyle event training (bottom of Spout/Blowhole) - great view from the deck!
    • 12:30 (or 1/2 hour after last paneled slalom run if later) :  Slopestyle event - same age/gender order
      Awards approximately 3pm or minimally 45 minutes after the last slope run.  We will allow our volunteers to break for lunch and will likely not run this event straight thru.
  • All participants will receive an award.

***VOLUNTEERS:  Several Volunteer spots remain open forr this event.   Please take a look at the available opportunities and sign up.   If you selected MoM as part of your registration volunteer commitment please be sure to visit the link below to sign up.  As a reminder our program relies on volunteers to keep costs affordable.  Every athelete's family is required to fulfill 1-3 volunteer credits depending on the program.
